More new products

Artificial flowers continue to represent a big proportion of both our product ranging and our sales. We have recently received stunning sunflower stems and bunches, along with different lily varieties in whites, creams and yellows. All of these attractive and colourful flowers need vases to do justice to how they are presented and we have a great new selection of larger coloured vases in recycled glass from Pacific Lifestyle at competitive and affordable prices.

New Products

We believe it is important to refresh and renew throughout the season, by both changing window and interior displays on a regular basis and by introducing new products every four to six weeks. It helps to maintain customer interest and ensures we don't get bored either! This Spring has seen a big interest in the 60s and 70s retro look, so in addition to super teak furniture we have introduced reproduction telephones and radios in cream, black and red. Easter uplift

We were delighted with the number of customers (regulars and new) that we saw in the Easter week. Business was brisk and it was great to chat and introduce the new windows and interior displays that Allanah has created. The window presentation of "mid century" retro furniture and accessories has created a lot of interest and sales.

Online Shop Additions

Following our limited online shop trial for Christmas and the Winter Sale, and having taken note of customer preferences, we are in the process of totally updating the offer.

In addition to a number of retained favourites we will be introducing 125 new lines, under the easy to shop headings of Gifts for Her; Gifts for Him; Gifts for Kids; Gifts for the Home, and Gifts for Weddings. The new lines are due to be on-line on 17th March. Watch this space!

New Season Arrivals

As we pride ourselves on the ethos of constant renewal in our product selection, we could barely wait to get out of SALE in January, and prepare the shop for new arrivals from all of our principal suppliers. We closed for a couple of days in February and the look of the shop, and of course the display windows, has changed dramatically.

Allanah has painted most of the internal walls to give a more dramatic backdrop, and the windows feature artificial flowers, vases and accessories with the emphasis on bright yellows and whites. It has given a real Spring lift to the front of the shop and we have had dozens of compliments from customers. In the shop itself, you can find a lot of home accessories and furniture with a retro, mid century feel, nostalgia is still big in decorative accessories, and we are featuring a number of tasteful gift ideas to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.

Marlborough Shop Closure

Just a quick word about our decision to close our smaller shop in Marlborough on Christmas Eve.

We felt that, whilst Newbury continued to trade very strongly throughout the latter half of 2011, supported by a hard core of loyal customers and further enhanced by the opening of Parkway in October, Marlborough was struggling to match the results of 2010. We were spending a disproportionate time between us in the Marlborough shop and felt that there was a longer term danger that Newbury would suffer as a result.

We are blessed to have such fantastic full time support from Tania in Newbury, but Allanah needed to spend more time there in order to update and maintain the high standards of visual presentation and "Wow" factor that we believe gives us an edge in such a competitive retail market. Rob was struggling also to manage all of the administration workload as well as devoting the necessary time to develop our website offer.

The decision to close Marlborough, whilst sad, was a straightforward commercial one, and we could not afford to allow sentiment or ego to cloud our judgement. We can now concentrate our efforts on building upon the fantastic customer loyalty in Newbury, whilst reaching out to a wider audience via an enhanced website. We also feel confident that our regular customers in Marlborough will not see the 18 mile distance as an impediment to visiting us in Newbury.

Beyond this date we cannot ensure that deliveries will take place before Christmas.

Marlborough Fashion Show

Marlborough Town Hall was the setting on 3^rd November for a fashion show organised by the local Chamber of Commerce to raise funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance Appeal. Shakin’ The Tree was one of many Marlborough retailers to take space and lend support. 50 x £5 gift vouchers were given away in goody bags so we look forward to seeing existing and new customers during the Christmas run-in.

Marlborough Late Night Shopping

Marlborough town centre retailers will mark the launch of late night Christmas shopping on Thursday 24^th November to coincide with the switch on of the Christmas lights. We will be open until 7pm on Thursdays 24^th November and 1^st; 8^th; 15^th and 22^nd December.

Sunday Opening
